Our curriculum puts the power of choice in the hands of our stakeholders—students, parents, and educators—ensuring a collaborative and personalized learning experience. Before each unit, we invite parents and educators to help shape the upcoming theme, ensuring it reflects shared interests and goals. During the unit, students have the freedom to select learner skill strategies to focus on, tailoring their learning journey to their individual needs and passions. Each classroom group also collaborates to choose additional skills to explore within the theme, allowing learners to emphasize what matters most to them. By embedding choice at every level, we foster motivation, engagement, and a deep connection to the subject matter.
Beyond learner choice, we ensure learners build real-world skills through clear goals and purposeful practice. Each 10-week session culminates in a final project that assesses abilities in authentic, meaningful scenarios rather than traditional exams. For instance, learners in our “Science Communication” theme may create a lab safety manual, write a magazine article, draft a conference abstract, or prepare a science policy brief, depending on their level. These projects are graded across four critical areas: Learner Profile Skills, Traditional Language Skills, Broad Written Genre Skills, and Specific Topic Skills, with progress supported by at least two formative assignments. With one hour of weekly homework and personalized feedback, our program empowers learners to develop their abilities and achieve measurable growth, even when faced with challenges.
Lastly, we ensure every learner builds confidence and mastery in a supportive and collaborative classroom environment with feedback to leave room for improvement. Skills are introduced using the proven “I do, we do, you do” teaching approach, ensuring students gain confidence by observing, practicing together, and then applying the skill independently. To deepen understanding, we foster active learning through class discussions and interactive Q&A sessions. These activities not only reinforce key concepts but also empower students to take ownership by articulating their understanding to peers. With this student-centered approach, we ensure every learner builds confidence and mastery in a supportive and collaborative environment.
